Cover: The deubiquitylating enzyme MINDY‐1 contains two adjacent motif interacting with ubiquitin (MIU) motifs that selectively bind to K48‐linked polyubiquitin chains. We discovered that the second MIU in MINDY‐1 can bind to polyubiquitin on its own. This MIU has three distinct binding sites that interact with and orient three ubiquitin moieties in such a way that only K48‐linked polyubiquitin chains can bind. The gymnast represents the MINDY‐1 MIU holding three Ub “balls” in a K48‐linked “chain”. From Yosua Adi Kristariyanto, Yogesh Kulathu and colleagues: A single MIU motif of MINDY‐1 recognizes K48‐linked polyubiquitin chains. For detail, see Scientific Report on page 392.
